The City of Sarasota has recently filed a Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA) to create three (3) new Urban Mixed-Use zone districts along commercial corridors and commercial centers (see associated Urban Mixed-Use Future Land Use Map on reverse). The intent and purpose of the Urban Mixed-Use zone districts is to identify existing commercial corridor and commercial center areas that are appropriate for mixed-use development and to incentivize on-site attainable housing. The Urban Mixed-Use Future Land Use classification and implementing Urban Mixed-Use zone districts are founded upon the concepts of “New Urbanism” in an effort to attract mixed-use developments that provide housing and workplaces in proximate locations.
