Transportation Planning plans, develops, manages projects, and supports the implementation of the Capital Improvement Program, as well as the City of Sarasota's first Transportation Master Plan, Sarasota in Motion. Some key roles of Transportation Planning include:
- Assessing and enhancing transportation safety
- Coordinating with the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
- Coordinating with other City departments and divisions on maintenance and capital improvement projects
- Engaging the public on transportation projects
- Implementing the City of Sarasota's bicycle and pedestrian connectivity plans
- Managing the traffic calming program
- Securing funding for transportation projects
Transportation Planning plays an integral role in funding of transportation projects. This includes:
- Submitting projects to the Sarasota/Manatee MPO for State and Federal funding.
- Applying for federal and private grants.
- Forming partnerships with not-for-profit organizations.
