The City is firmly committed to equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate in any employment-related decisions on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, disability, marital status or other similar factors that are not job related; per Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, (prohibiting discrimination on account of race, sex, color, national origin, or religion); the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, 29 U.S.C. §621, et seq. (prohibiting discrimination on account of age); the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, (prohibiting discrimination on account of disabilities); the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993; and the Florida Civil Rights Act of 1992 (prohibiting discrimination on account of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status).

This pledge also applies to upgrading, transfer or change of position, rates of pay or other forms of compensation, selection for training, termination and all other conditions of employment.

The City's policy of equality of opportunity applies to all organizational levels of the City and all job classifications. It is the responsibility of each Department Head and supervisor to give the City's nondiscrimination policy full support through leadership and personal example. In addition, it is the duty of each employee to help maintain a work environment which is conducive to and which reflects the City's commitment to equal employment opportunity.
