I was born in Washington state and grew up on the west coast before my father (Army officer) moved to Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, where I attended junior/senior high. I was influenced by space scientists to study at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia to become an engineer; and was fortunate to be selected to work at NASA. After serving in the US Army, I went back to Huntsville where I began an exciting future in the computer industry. I worked for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) and several startup companies before launching my own innovative Internet-based startups. I am co-author of the book: Building Database-Driven Web Catalogs, and was an international speaker on electronic business and Internet software standards. I have served as the chief executive officer of several non-profit consortiums, including most recently the international non-profit Smart Grid Interoperability Panel, which was a spin-off organization from the US Department of Energy and the National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST).
