Project Description

The City of Sarasota’s Transportation Master Plan, Sarasota in Motion, identified Main Street as the #8 priority. Main Street Complete Streets focuses on a design that promotes safe travel to and from destinations, whether walking, biking, riding transit, or driving a vehicle. Each complete street is unique to the community and can include different features like enhanced sidewalks, street lighting, street trees and landscaping, public art, and more.

Main Street Community Survey Has CLOSED

From farmers markets to art festivals to nights on the town, Main Street truly is the heart of our community here in sunny Sarasota. As the plans for the Main Street Redesign enter the visioning stage, we want to hear from you! Whether you’re a full-time resident, a summer guest, or a weekend visitor, we want to know how you envision the future of Main Street and you have responded.

The City of Sarasota received over 1,500 survey responses that will help shape the vision for the Main Street Complete Streets project.

Main Street Comment Map

The City of Sarasota is in the process of developing a Vision for Main Street between US 41 and School Avenue. We invite and encourage you to use this interactive comment map to provide your input. Your feedback related to opportunities and concerns and general comments will provide valuable insight as the City works to identify a vision that reflects the needs of the community.

To begin the comment process, please zoom to your location of interest. Once you have identified the location, click on the “Comment” tab to select a comment category.

Click on the specific icon that you wish to use (see category descriptions below).
Navigate on the map and click on the location that you wish to identify – a comment box will appear for you to describe the specific issue or concern.
Once you are done entering your comments, please “Submit.”

Visioning

The Main Street Complete Streets Visioning project is looking to transform Main Street between US 41 and School Avenue into a more welcoming, safe, connected, lively, and attractive hub of commerce and activity by evaluating all aspects of the right-of-way, including but not limited to travel lanes, on-street parking, sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping. Through a community-centered approach with input from residents, business owners, workers, property owners, and visitors the Visioning process will guide the development of a future Main Street that supports and reflects the community’s needs and values.

The City of Sarasota invited the public to a Main Street Complete Street visioning workshop on April 2, 2024, to learn more about the project and provide feedback. The workshop was hosted in the Jack J. Geldbart auditorium in Selby Library. Workshop materials provided below.

Main Street Complete Streets Open House

The City of Sarasota invited the public to attend one of two informational Open Houses at City Hall Annex from 12:00-5:00pm on April 23^rd, and 3:00-7:00pm on May 1^st. Attendees were provided with opportunities to review existing conditions, provide input on maps and visuals, and engage in an open discussion and comment. A formal presentation will not be provided.
