Engineering Design Criteria Manual
The City of Sarasota (City) is updating the Engineering Design Criteria Manual (EDCM) to improve the quality of design in the community. The 2023 EDCM should support the City’s vision for a world-class community and treasured destination, with enduring natural beauty, charm, and diversity. The EDCM is actively in the revision process through early 2024. During this time the City of Sarasota will be collecting recommendations for changes to sections of the EDCM.

Context Sensitive Approach
Context classification is a way of categorizing a street based on its surrounding land use, travel patterns, user types, and its role in the transportation network. This classification system helps practitioners design roadways that meet communities’ specific needs. The City of Sarasota's Context Classification information can be found on Chapter 3: Street Design.
