The City of Sarasota of Sarasota first introduced parklets in June 2021 as a response to COVID-19. Parklets are public seating platforms that convert curbside parking spaces into vibrant community spaces. Parklets are the product of a partnership between the city and local businesses, providing additional outdoor dining seating.

The Parklets program has been extended until September 30, 2023.

The City of Sarasota hosted a Parklet Information Meeting on June 21, 2023, where City staff discussed parklets standards, parking criteria, aesthetics guide, permit process and fees. The purpose of the Information Meeting was to update the public on new standards and guidance for the Parklets being implemented after the September 30, 2023, extension sunsets.
